As a writer you would think he would do his research a bit better. Duke Forever was 90% 3D Realms work, Gearbox just rescued it from the scrap heap when they brought the franchise. They patched the whole thing together as best they could and released it. Technically it's mostly not even their game.

In saying that tho Duke has always been over the top. Even the original DOS based games had that kinda flair to them. Take that away and it isn't Duke. I think this guy needs to pick a different company to boycott and start his book again from scratch.

I have two things that I would like to comment on. Firstly is the fact that Duke Nukem Forever wasn't actually developed by Gearbox Software. All they did was polish it and release it as it was developed by 3D Realms. The second point is that this game was a 90's game. I think pre year 2000 gaming was a bit of a different place. Duke Nukem was always meant to be over the top...The 90's were an over the top time of which the Duke was King... If the game was released around 1998 or the year 2000 I think it would have been a bigger hit, but just as over the top.

What struck me was that your article seemed just as ridicules and over the top.

Gearbox is one of the best developers around, particularly in terms of community support and reaching out to their audience. You enjoy ur boycott...

I seem to not be seeing this mentioned much in the vari0ous comments. Gearbox didn't even really "create" Duke Nukem forever. They just patched it up and got it out the door. This whole thing is silly and an extremely foolish reason to not play what is probably one of the best sequels I've played in awhile.

Well damn, wasnt really planning on picking this up(never played the first), but now that i understand that its being boycotted, i'll run out asap and snag a copy.

I'v never been disappointed with one of their games. Even DNF was pretty decent to some other games i'v played. I wasted $60 on Too Human when that game come out and it was TERRIBLE.

2 problems:
One. this isn't duke nukem. never say never, Mr Saddiqui, because things change. in another year gearbox may be comprised of a lot of new talent, not the same team that fashioned a duke chapter around female genital mutilation.

Two. you accuse gearbox of outright misogyny for its own sake, when I think it's more likely just a matter of poor taste. I can easily see management encouraging their devs to go 'over the top' and take duke 'to the next level'.

EDIT: in reading more comments it seems gearbox didn't even really develop DNF. silly blogger, real games journalism is for those who do some fucking research. :D

Duke Nuke 'Em Forever was offensive garbage, and no one bought it or liked it for that reason. That franchise is over. I'm not going to boycott Gearbox due to one dumb game that didn't interest me.

now the only Gearbox game i was planning to boycott was the Aliens game, though that was because they made a game based on Aliens and thought it was ok to turn it into a sausage fest.
anybody who knows anything about the Alien series knows, that's just not on.

but they've finally seen the error of their ways, so i can actually consider buying that one again.

i didn't buy DNF because, well, i simply didn't think it was that good.

I read the article. I agree that DNF was not the most correct experience and certainly not a very intelligent game. But it was fun for some. Some people enjoyed it.
Borderlands 2 is a fun game for some people too. Som people will enjoy (probably more people than DNF).
The point is they are two seperate games, and that you basically just can't bash a whole company with such a big word as "misogyny", based on one single title.
DNF is not very tastefull, but it doesn't make Borderlands so. Borderlands for a fact has cool women, who seem appropriate and not all misogynist. So please rate each game seperately instead of comdemning an old time sin. Let the company repent.
