Maybe they just came up with a worse name than NGP, so they can go back to NGP and people won't complain about it not being called PSP2, because "at least they didn't call it the Vita."
Horrible name though IMO. It doesn't sound like a game system, let alone a cool and powerful one. It sounds more like a Chinese ripoff of Vista or something.
I wonder if its just because they want to have playstation in the name, but don't want to call it psp2 because it could be confused with psp2000, 3000, and go. They probably just want to start with a fresh name behind playstation other than portable, but still, I think they should have used another name, but I guess it does set it apart from playstation portable, which is what they probably want
Problem with "NGP" is that there's no "Playstation" trademark in it. And "PSNGP" does not sounds so good, neither is "Playstation NGP". As a hardware being developed, produced, and released by SCE, it will needs and have a "Playstation" brand.
The other problem with NGP is that it can't remain the next generation portable forever. What's the next one going to be called? The generation after that portable? But I agree that NGP has a better flow to it.
It doesn't sound like a gamer type of word. I think of "Vita" as a product and I think of bottled water. Vita as a name for a phone could work- many people are inseparable from their phones. Pretty soon all of our IDs, passports, credit cards will be stored on our phones. Not exactly a future I want- stay away Google Wallet.
I suppose that could be possible but Sony ain't no Toyota with the naming of their core products. I still think PSP2 is the most likely candidate name. Vita is not the most striking name if you ask me.
The new fetta cheese portable from sony releases today, as all the gamers eat that cheese up. Hold on lisa, let me get some of these cheese, Im sorry I know we're reporting live but this is just too good!
i like it , i dont like psp2 at all , i even prefer NGP over PSP 2 , or PSP Touch but in their Japan keynote i think i saw sony showcasing Play life at some point , anyways lets see what they say at E3
NGP sounds right indeed , PSP 2 for some reason i dont like , too predictable , anyways its sony and they dont name their products that crazy, i think something different than psp2 could be a good thing for them , i dont know its just my thinking , lets see what they say about official name , perhaps some of you dont like Vita at all but i didnt like NGP either and now im really used to it
I think PlayStation Vita sounds abit strange. I mean you're talking about a PSV? A simple PSP2, would be a clear message. Also if the source was real, wouldn't they go to a more reputable site rather than an unknown one?
The source approached someone he knew who happened to know me and so put it on the website. The source didn't go searching for websites to give this news to.
Simple...the stigma the industry has attached to the PSP needed to be abandoned. Sure, in form it still looks like a PSP. Call it a PSP, however, and people who had a negative experience with the original will likely be hesitant to invest in the product.
If the rumored name, Vita, is true...well, I think it's a clever way to reintroduce a new strategy by Sony. Only time will tell and E3 will certainly make everything clear, but I'm quite happy they aren't considering calling it the PSP2.
Maybe because they don't want the ngp to share the same fate as the psp. about the hacking and lack of support. etc.... They want to reach a bigger install base than before and therefore need a new and refreshing name. This is just my opinion.
That would never happen. If a name has been branded at this phase in the game, it wouldn't be changed because a hoard of people don't like it...the branding would be done, the signage for the booth...done (considering E3 setup is happening right now through next Sunday).
I probably shouldn't say this in fear where it might go but I guess this is where the Living La Vita Loca jokes start... I shutter at the thought.
In all seriousness I kind of like it Vita or if they add 'new' PS Novitatem??? okay maybe not. This probably isn't even the name, remember how many names Sony went through for the Move? It was 2, not that much.
If the choose to go with a different name other than PSP 2, then they will most likely do the same with the PS4. It actually make sense, because like Nintendo, every console has had a different name, and I don't believe Sony would like to name all the consoles the same with a different number. Let's see how it goes at E3, but I just don't like Vita that much.
Sony seems to keep their naming convention pretty straight forward when it comes to their Playstation brand. Daulshock, sixaxis, playstation move, playstation portable. I doubt it'll be Vita but maybe they'll surprise me. Never know!
Wouldn't be surprised if it's the PSPTouch or something.
Well, the PS Move was called 'orb', 'arc', etc... so I would not rely on this info for 'vita' as official just yet.
Me thinks it'll be called the PSP2. I always like NGP though even though the lack of the Playstation branding would hurt it. Playstation NGP doesn't sound bad though.
This is cool, and there are a lot of things that lead me to think its official. For one the V in Roman is 5. considering Sony's portable stable. there are already 4 versions of pap on the market. psp, psp 2000, psp 3000, and psp Go. the ps vita if abreviated goes for psv which would fall in line with it being the 5th but evolutionary portable from them. Ninty has over 7 different revisions of the DS. and gameboys... this is no different.
the name also goes with the mantra for the ngp being play live, anywhere with your friends and being constantly updated and totally integrated with them and countless others in your area Henderson the LIVE ANYWHERE APP on the ngp's UI. I also feel that while the psp has been successful there are way too many negatives attached, changing the name introduces a fresh start for the portable stable for Sony and disassociates all the negatives its predecessors had attached to them, none innovative games compared to the DS, playstation 2 ports and hacking and poor developer support. This name change gives it a new start with some already positive outlooks for the device..
just think about it PS Vita(WiFi) and PS Vita (3G) already monikers like WiFi PSV or Vita 3g comes to mind and that just sounds cool.
the only I don't want Sony to do is shoot themself in the foot and ONLY partner with Verizon for 3g models because that totally limits the 3g market. I wouldn't mind dropping money on this if I can walk into my Sprint store and get one under there data plan. especially since Sprint roams on Verizon. none the less!
HOW UPSETTING A NAME THAT MAKES ME CRINGE I THINK I WILL MAYBE STILL BUY 1 BUT AT LEAST MY 3DS SOUNDS LIKE A GAMES SYSTEM AND IM LOOKING FOWARD TO MERCENARIES MORE THAN UNCHARTERED VITA ANYWAY AS THERES MORE ACTION IN MERCENARIES 3DS PLUS IM A WRC RALLY FANATIC AND VITA DOESNT GET WRC 2011 ONLY 3DS/PS3/360/PC
...any of you are talking about... The PS Vita, does sound like a legitimate Sony-issued name for a device. It sounds so true, that I'm willing to bet that it's the true name. NGP sounds absolutely ridiculous and unmarketable. Anyone who says it sounds fine knows nothing ABOUT marketing. Not to mention the stupid acronym that it is. "Next Generation Portable" ABSOLUTELY DRY AND VOID OF LIFE!... :o *GASP* A synonym for life is VITALITY. Something they want to bring back into the Sony portable gaming system.... :) I say yes.
Sounds really close to Vista doesn't it?
I suppose that could be possible but Sony ain't no Toyota with the naming of their core products. I still think PSP2 is the most likely candidate name. Vita is not the most striking name if you ask me.
Not a bad name but I'd rather wait for Sony's official announcement. I personally think NGP is a good name..
Weren't there some old reports that GI reported the PSP2 codename was "Veta"......
http://n4g.com/news/667466/...
But that was way back when the specs went all overkill and stuff.
I still think they should name it the PSP2.
i like it , i dont like psp2 at all , i even prefer NGP over PSP 2 , or PSP Touch but in their Japan keynote i think i saw sony showcasing Play life at some point , anyways lets see what they say at E3
